At Carlton Gardens Primary School, every child is welcome and has a valued place in our school community. We believe every child has the right to feel safe, valued, included and connected. Students are best able to learn when they feel known, understood and supported. Our approach to student wellbeing, engagement and inclusion is therefore embedded in everyday school life and works alongside our approach to high-quality teaching and learning.
Our staff take the time to know each student as an individual, recognising their strengths, interests, culture and learning needs. We build positive relationships with students and families and work collaboratively to create the conditions where every child can participate, experience success and develop confidence as a learner.
We use a whole-school, tiered approach to wellbeing and engagement. This includes universal approaches that support all students, targeted support for students who need additional assistance, and personalised support for students with more complex or ongoing needs. We regularly review the supports that students are offered, and adjust, or even withdraw them as students learn and grow. Our approach draws on evidence-informed practices including the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships program, School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support, Zones of Regulation and Disability Inclusion.
Inclusion is central to who we are as a school. We celebrate the rich cultural and linguistic diversity of our students and families and welcome students with disabilities and additional learning needs as valued members of our community. We believe every student has the right to belong, participate and learn alongside their peers. We are committed to removing barriers and providing the adjustments and support students need to experience success.
